Balance ..

For the past few days, I have been thinking about balance and how it affects my life.  We know that balance can come in many forms; spiritual forms, physical forms, emotional forms, relationship forms, etc.  What balance means to me may mean something different to someone else.
My husband reminded me that I sometimes become over-balanced when it comes to housework and homework.  A state of perfection sets in.  I love order, I love clean, and I love to cook wonderful meals for my family.  I love A's on my college papers. When I began working two employments due to my husband's illness, I had to become creative in order to balance work and limited time for cooking meals.  Meals are planned a month ahead and food is carefully measured and ready at a moment's need.
I had to find a quiet balance between too much time worrying about and making sure that my husband's needs were met while dealing with illness.  Being a caretaker can create physical and emotional havoc if not carefully thought out and taking time for myself.  It has been wonderful to be involved with my horses and music once again.  I find stamina in carrying such weights of responsibility easier when I balance the stress and chores.  Focusing on the priorities and being flexible has become an important part of balance.  I stopped over-scheduling and over-committing as I had done in the past.  I have slowed my life down to enjoy the simple things.  My husband and I take time almost every day to swim laps and take walks with our dogs.  I structure my day to take advantage of my peak performance times.
This has been a wonderful year with new adventures and great blessings.  Balance has increased my personal growth, love, positive energy, and time to take a breath!   Even time to plant the winter flowers!
