“... beauty on your earth is a shadow of the beauty of our heaven, and it’s a bitter thing to have a blindness for beauty on earth, for it makes a longer teaching to see the beauties of heaven.” —Spoken by an Irish spirit in the book “The Boy who Saw True” (anonymous author).
When I walk around my home and the land that it resides on, my heart fills with awe, love, and I appreciate the beauty around me. My husband, son, and I have been packing and organizing. My husband finished a beautiful corner cabinet now painted in a distressed Sedona Red to match my wine cabinet. The kitchen flourishes in Italian Green and pictures of children and grand-children adorn the walls. Cooking, baking within our kitchen keeps our hearts open in gratitude. We have incredible shelter, wood stoves to warm the air, electricity to see and watch movies, water to drink and bath in, and wonderful beds to sleep in. There are some that are not so able to provide all of the needs for their families. I appreciate my fortitude and strength in doing so for my family.
It is important to feed our souls with beauty; to keep an open heart in gratitude. In loving a simple leaf staggering its way to the ground during the season of Autumn, to appreciate the intricate design of the tree bark, or the last petals of a flower taking a stand against the frost, it gives way to the sacred privilege of experiencing the journey on this Earth. If I do this every moment of the day while incorporating my other duties, it closes the negative and I am not going to be upset or unhappy. The hot bath at the end of a busy day, the clean sheets to fold back and climb under, the soft breath and snuggle of my handsome husband cuddled up against me provides simple beauty and fills my body with vitality. Beauty and gratitude are soul foods. When I become open to them, I extend invitations of love, peace and joy to all of those around me. I open the doors to spiritual connections and guidance to keep me on the path of a beautiful life journey.
In this way, I am learning to love myself more and more and sharing my love with others. This is what our life journeys are about.
